Hazelbank is a traditional stone built cottage which enjoys stunning views across the loch and out to Kilbrannan Sound. It has a cosy open fire in the living area, ideal for cooler evenings, whilst the beautiful garden to the front is a great place to relax on a warm summer’s day. Centrally located in Lochranza and within walking distance is the beach, Lochranza Castle, Lochranza Hotel, the Arran Butcher and a sandwich shop for fresh homemade sandwiches. This is the perfect place to enjoy the Arran’s mountains, coastline and abundance of wildlife.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and we loved the view and sitting out in the garden. We were very lucky with the weather and loved Lochranza. The only problem was with bedroom 3. Had to come down the stairs backwards and felt it was a bit precarious. Odd layout due to steps between areas and especially in the hall where the bathroom was as the carpet was dark blue. We had to put a white dish towel across to mark where the step was as we kept tripping over it. As it is very open plan I do not know what it would be like to stay in the winter months. Otherwise was perfectly happy.
Reply from agent - Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate this, it has been passed onto the owner. The property is advertised mentioning the number of steps throughout including the hand rail into the living room. We have suggested to the owner about a step strip in the back hallway to make that step more visable. The back bedroom is advertised with having the wooden staircase which is not suitable for toddlers or people with limited mobility, as they are steep but are extremly secure, it tends to be the room children use. The owner is getting new radiators put in that are more efficient and the coal fire provides a very cosy living room in the cooler months. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and had some good weather. Thank you.

This is the 4th time we have stayed in this property and the 20th annual visit to Arran. The cottage is beginning to look a little tired now and to us needs some money spending on it. The cottage was spotless when we arrived but felt a little damp. Access to the back door (a bonus if you have a dog) was restricted by overgrown plants and the garden generally needs taming. Having made these points we still had a very enjoyable time on the island and will be returning next year.
Reply from agrent - Thank you for your feedback, this is always appreciated. I have spoken to the owner regarding your comments and will contact you seperately to get some specifics as the owner would find that useful in order to keep the house well maintained. The owner will be dealing with the overgrown plants issue. They thank you for your feedback and are glad you will be returning next year.

We have just returned from a week at Hazelbank and have to say it was perfect for our family. The cottage was warm and cosy and the garden was great for enjoying the rare autumn sun. We found everything we needed and more, making good use of the board games and the garden was perfect for hide and seek. The midges were out in force but we knew to expect this and were as prepared as we could be. All in all a perfect break in the perfect location and we look forward to returning next year.

We were 3 adults sharing Hazelbank which can accommodate 6, so we had plenty of room to spare. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there. The cottage, although a wee bit dated, was lovely and homely. The location was ideal for us too- handy for our travels (we were walking the Coastal Path) and great for watching other ‘traffic’ by land or by sea - human and otherwise. The only gripe (and this wasn’t really a problem) was that the electric heaters seem to have a mind of their own - and we couldn’t properly time the heat to suit.

This is our second year at Hazelbank. Good to see the bench has been moved to a better situation in the garden and the bushes have been cut back. It made a great difference to sitting outside. We will, hopefully be returning again next year.

We were 4 adults using the property as a base to explore the island and Kyntyre on our bikes – well equipped clean plenty of room – I would say good if you have a dog as you can separate them from the living room and the type of floors make it easier to keep on top of any mess created. I found the separation of sink and cooking area a bit of a challenge and the small twin room I could see could be problematic for small children or the elderly. Overall great stay thank you Arran Team.

The cottage was clean, comfy and cosy; loved having real fire on chilly evenings. Watching red squirrels from edge of bed in the mornings was a delight. The kitchen was well equipped; elderly mother would have preferred sink in same room. We all enjoyed it so much (including accessibility to “Staggs” and “Lighthouse” restaurants; great to have “Lochranza” pub next door too) my sister now wants to book it! Hope the fact I forgot to clear fruit bowl, at end of stay, didn’t cause problems.
